Top 10 most anticipated conferences of the LAW2019 autumn season

The conferences are a highly renowned feature of any event by the SOLICITORS group. Not only do we use the most expert speakers in the business, but we present the most critical hot topics. LAW2019 is extremely content-led and aimed at keen and passionate practitioners.

#10: Residential Property

This lucrative area of law is never quiet. Our speakers include experts such as Richard Snape and Stephen Desmond, who have the unenviable challenge of keeping on top of everything going on.

Recently there have been some major events and changes in areas such as easements, planning enforcement periods, the Land Registry Practice Guide, and much more. There is such a wealth of content to be covered in the Residential Property conferences this autumn, making them amazing value for any practitioner.

Residential Property conferences are being held at all the LAW2019 events. Topics will vary depending on regional law between England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Ireland.

#9: Immigration Law

Fresh asylum and human rights claims, EEA law and Brexit, Article 8 updates, and much more are to be covered in the extensive Immigration conference at LAW2019 Manchester. Our speakers Priya Solanki and Adam Pipe are highly renowned and always receive excellent feedback from our audience.

#8: Wills & Probate

James Beresford, who normally speaks on Introduction to Wills Drafting and Administration of Estates, is joining the main Wills & Probate conference at LAW2019 Cardiff – his speaking debut for that area. Alongside renowned speakers Professor Lesley King, Christopher Whitehouse and Caroline Bielanska, the Wills & Probate offering for the autumn season is looking as prestigious as ever.

#7: Solicitors Regulation & Compliance

Columb Fortune is a barrister who is highly experienced in delivering courses on this mandatory area of CPD for solicitors in the Republic of Ireland. These talks are such a popular feature of LAW2019 Dublin that they are repeated on both days of the event.

Columb’s breakfast briefing will cover the crucial area of ethics and best practice, followed by a 3-hour conference regarding complaints procedures – unmissable for any lawyer who is passionate about client relations.

#6: Personal Injury

Truly hard-hitting topics are to be covered in the Personal Injury selection this autumn. In Glasgow, Damian White and Iain Nicol will be discussing fatal cases, vicarious liability, success fees, and many more high interest areas of Scottish personal injury law.

Manchester attendees can look forward to another content-led seminar by Jeff Zindani, this time covering whether the 100% success fee model is coming to an end, avoiding procedural death, and more.

In Belfast, Dr David Sharpe will bring us a critical update on clinical negligence and Cerebral Palsy, and Michael Bready will deliver a wide range of subjects such as occupier’s liability and claims from fatal accidents.

#5: Commercial Property

Tenant insolvency, validity of property contracts and deeds, recent overage cases, disposal of development land … these are just some of the critical areas of commercial property law being covered by Alan Riley and Richard Snape.

Commercial Property is one of the most popular areas for the SOLICITORS group’s audience, and with these high focus areas being covered, this is a programme not to be missed.

#4: Management & Professional Development

Solicitors in the Republic of Ireland are required to complete 3 hours of Management & Professional Development training each year, which guarantees this to be a popular option on the LAW2019 Dublin programme. Within the event there will be 4 courses under the Management & Professional Development banner:

  • Managing the threat of financial crime
  • Team working for lawyers
  • Motivating our staff
  • Risk management for law firms

These are seriously important areas for Irish lawyers to be proficient in, no matter their level, making these key courses to watch.

#3: Employment Law

The last 18 months have seen frenzied developments in employment law. Who counts as a worker? How does the gig economy fit in? When is someone dismissed? The answers might be surprising, and the prolific Dominic Regan is our speaker to deliver this information and more.

At LAW2019 Glasgow, Chris Phillips will discuss the increase in harassment claims in response to the #MeToo movement, Graham Gray will give a data protection update, and Noele McClelland will have a significant session on disability discrimination.

#2: Family Law

As one of the most popular legal practice areas for our audience, Family Law is always one to watch.

This autumn, the key areas of discussion within English family law include special guardianship orders, developments in domestic abuse law, some major cases with financial orders, and much more. The speakers on this programme include Mena Ruparel, Graham Pegg, and Safda Mahmood, all of whom are highly renowned and have received outstanding feedback over years of working with the SOLICITORS group.

In Scottish family law, a staggering roster of six speakers will be at LAW2019 Glasgow to deliver critical updates on surrogacy, financial provision on divorce, cohabitation, amongst many other subjects. This colossal amount of content will provide the attendees with a truly substantial day of learning.

#1: Risk Management

This mandatory area of learning for solicitors in Scotland and Northern Ireland is set to be one of the greatest highlights of LAW2019 Glasgow and LAW2019 Belfast. Kicking off the first day of the Glasgow event, Joel Conn from Mitchells Roberton will deliver a highly important lecture on cyber security and fraud awareness. And on the second day, Steven Blundell from Advantage Consulting will provide advice for prioritisation, time management, workflow and process improvement, followed by the latest on anti-money laundering.

In Belfast, Matthew Hickling is set to deliver a great value 3-hour talk on data protection, anti-money laundering, complaints handling and more.

Not only are these subjects mandatory study, but they are of higher importance than ever before in 2019. And best of all, the attendees in Glasgow can look forward to a complimentary breakfast.
