Topics covered include:
• Advising clients in the light of Jones v Kernott
• Risks that can arise after the client’s purchase has completed
• Third party contributions, including from the bank of Mum and Dad

Acting for High Risk (Non-Fraudulent) Conveyancing Clients
Presented By Stephen Desmond

Conveyancing transactions involving high-risk clients present additional challenges for the property lawyer.

This presentation focuses on two key challenges. The first is to identify when a client is more likely to pose a risk to you. The second is then taking steps to reduce those risks, when identified.

Topics covered include:
• Complex SDLT cases: the extent of your retainer
• Powers of attorney: You do not meet donor face-to-face - How do you check the power is genuine?
• Sales where registered proprietor is bankrupt: notices and restrictions
• Bankruptcy entries against borrower and further enquiries that may be made
• Right to Buy risks: Clarifying beneficial ownership, who can join in the purchase, covenants that apply in some rural areas

We had a number of enquiries regarding our services after the event and we feel our attendance there was important to our overall brand exposure. We feel a Law event of this size without Euromoney Legal Training present could potentially be hurtful to us as a business. We would recommend you to attend and shall ourselves be there again in 2008.”
